Read To Me America was started by educator,
Ruby V. Shaffer, in an effort to help all children reach their full academic potential. After teaching in
a multi-cultural environment, Ms. Shaffer observed
that neither race, gender, nor financial status were the essential ingredients that contributed to the many students who soared academically.
Student who excelled
possessed something others did not—parents who knew
and practiced the four basic ingredients for
academic success. The four key ingredients are:
1. Parents and
guardians who set high academic standards for their children
2. Parents
and guardians who set high behavioral standards for their
children
3. Parents and guardians who are actively
involved in their children’s educational journey.
4.
Parents and guardians who read aloud to their children
and encourage their children to read more often.
Read To Me America is
committed to creating innovative strategies that will
effectively reach and teach all parents the importance
of their role in their children’s educational journey.
In keeping with
our goals, Read To Me America has created walking and talking
billboards in the form of The Read To Me Rap CD performed
by The Read To Me Rappers, t-shirts, visors, bumper stickers,
posters and bookmarks that will surely generate attention,
conversation, and--ultimately---get parents reading to their
children!
